High Angle Rescue Technicians play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe working environment by performing high angle rescue operations in an incident involving personnel, preparing high angle rescue equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Roles and Responsibilities

A High Angle Rescue Technician’s essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performing high angle rescue operations and stand-by duties.
  • Preparing rescue equipment
  • Developing and implementing site-specific rescue plans and procedures.
  • Conducting on-site safety watch, confined space entry watch, atmospheric testing, and gas detection.

Role and Responsibilities

The OFA 3 Medic’s main role on location is to provide emergency response to crews in the event of an injury, illness or emergency situation. The Industrial First Aid Attendant’s tasks include, but not limited to:
  • Maintaining all current tickets – i.e. H2S, First Aid, CPR, TDG, WHMIS, Provincial Governing Body Registration;
  • Keeping up with all protocols of Advanced First Aid;
  • Obeying and following first aid protocols set out by ruling government agencies;
  • Collecting and maintaining confidential information – i.e. all pertinent patient medical information;
  • Providing First Aid to workers when injured or ill, within your scope of practice (OFA3, EMR, PCP);

Role and Responsibilities

The primary role of a field H2S Safety Supervisor is to ensure the crew's safety while the threat of H2S gas is present or likely to be present. The H2S Safety Supervisor's main tool is their air trailer, which contains compressed breathing air, and equipment to protect against the gas. Typically, they can expect to work 12 hours per day (though it can be more or less), with up to 24 days between rotations. The H2S Safety Supervisor’s tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Briefing and educating crews on the dangers of working in an H2S environment;
  • Ensure crews have adequate training on breathing air equipment;
  • Setting up and monitoring of gas detection equipment;
  • Being an active participant in site safety meetings;
  • Planning and organizing rescue in the event of an H2S emergency;
  • Testing the environment for the presence of H2S gas;
  • Providing continuous monitoring of crews wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and/or Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus;

An Industrial Firefighter’s main role on any job site is to actively respond to an emergency situation such as an uncontrolled fire or release of potentially harmful substances that may come in contact with personnel on location. The Firefighters travel in teams of two, sometimes three, allowing one to control the pump while the other suppresses the fire with foam and water. The Firefighter’s tasks include but are not limited to:
