Job Description

Trojan Safety Services is looking for skilled and dedicated firefighters to join our team. Our BC firefighting jobs are crucial in maintaining a safe environment by providing fire safety services and emergency response in industrial settings. You will receive advanced firefighting tools and work with top professionals to ensure the highest fire safety and emergency preparedness standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

As industrial firefighters, your primary duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as emergency personnel on-site by:
    • Providing medical assistance and rescue services as a first responder
    • Hazardous materials response
  • Supporting H2S Supervisors and/or First Aid Attendants during emergencies
  • Educating crews about the dangers of flammable substances and emergency evacuation procedures
  • Actively participating in safety meetings and weekly training sessions
  • Safely and appropriately operating all company vehicles and equipment
  • Taking responsibility for fire rescue operations
  • Promoting a respectful work environment
  • Collaborating with the team during fire and rescue situations
  • Staying current with fire and rescue guidelines, medical protocols, rescue plans, and pre-incident plans
  • Keeping all certifications and tickets up-to-date
  • Conducting pre-and post-trip inspections for all jobs
  • Following all company health and safety program regulations
  • Collaborating with safety officers and site managers to enhance fire safety measures

Physical Requirements

Given the demands of fire services, candidates must:

  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness
  • Be capable of working long hours and multiple consecutive shifts, including day and night
  • Have strong observational skills
  • Possess normal colour vision, as many safety systems are colour-coded

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement (preferred) and a current (within three months) clean driving record
  • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Level 1 and 2 certification
  • NFPA 1081 (Auxiliary Firefighters) certification
  • H2S Alive certification
  • Emergency medical training: Occupational First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Current registration with the Provincial Governing Body

Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.

Roles and Responsibilities

An Industrial Firefighter’s main role on any job site is to actively respond to an emergency situation such as an uncontrolled fire or release of potentially harmful substances that may come in contact with personnel on location. The Firefighters travel in teams of two, sometimes three, allowing one to control the pump while the other suppresses the fire with foam and water. The Firefighter’s tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Act as emergency personnel on site by:
    • Being first on the scene to control fires,
    • Assisting in the rescue of workers,
    • Assisting personnel exposed to harmful substances,
  • Assisting H2S Supervisors and/or First Aid Attendants in the event of an emergency;
  • Educating crews on hazards of flammable substance and emergency evacuations;
  • Be an active participant in all safety meetings;
  • Operate all company vehicles and equipment in a safe and appropriate manner;
  • Maintain all tickets;
  • Perform pre and post trips for all jobs;
  • Follow all company Health and Safety rules.

    • Be able to work several consecutive shifts (12 hours) consisting of day and night shifts.
 

Qualifications

  • NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2
  • NFPA 1081 (Auxiliary Firefighters)
  • Occupational First Aid or Equivalent
  • H2S
  • Valid Class 3 Drivers Licence with air brake endorsement (preferred) & Current (within 3 months), clear Drivers Abstract
This is considered a safety sensitive position and the candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
