The Fort St. John detection and control of flammable substances course is an all-day training session that provides oil and gas industry workers with the skills and knowledge on proper detection practices using catalytic detection instruments, how to control flammable substances, and how to assess hazards, to help them complete the flammable substances detection exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, participants will receive a permanent certificate that will be valid for 3 years..  

To register and complete the Fort St. John detection and control of flammable substances certification course, participants will need to have:

  • Photo ID, or 2 non-photo gov’t issued ID’s

This training enables participants to identify flammable substances and potentially hazardous atmospheres, and learn proper precautionary measures. The course topics include:

  • Introduction to flammable substances
  • Principles of flammable gas/vapour
  • Care and preparation of combustible gas monitors
  • Sampling strategies and interpretation of monitor readings
  • Control methods for high combustible gas readings
